Message of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran His Excellency Mr. Hasan Rouhani. Read out by: Mahmoud Vaezi Head of the Presidential Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. (Al-e Imran, 103)
Your Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the Honorable President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Ladies and Gentlemen
I would like to convey my warm and cordial greetings to all the dear guests and distinguished participants in the closing meeting of the Islamic Solidarity Year. I appreciate the organizers of this important meeting and particularly my brothers in the friend and brother country Azerbaijan for their hospitality.
The Islamic Republic of Iran openly supported the initiative by the honorable President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to name 2017 as the Year of Islamic Solidarity. Iran was in fact the host of an important international meeting last summer in Tehran to support this move. We also sent our athletes to Baku to participate in the sports programs of the Islamic Solidarity Year which is another indication of our support for this proper initiative.
Ladies and Gentlemen
Islam is the religion of compassion, mercy, kindness and love for humans. The message of Islam is the message of mercy and fraternity for the mankind. And the Almighty God, introduced the Prophet of Islam as Rahmatul lel-Alamin or mercy for the world. On the other hand, the illuminating verses of the holy Quran and the merciful instructions of the Prophet of Mercy (PBUH) and the valuable recommendations of the Imams (AS) emphasize on unity among Muslims. They have admonished us against division and dissention.
We in Muslim states shoulder a heavy responsibility in realizing this religious obligation. It is regrettable that under the present political circumstances of the world, we see absence of unity among Muslims which is blamed partly on differences among the Muslim Ummah as well as the ill-wishes and bad-intentions of enemies who consider our unity against their political interests.
We believe that if Muslims are united, global powers would never dare to offend the first Qiblah of Muslims. If Muslim countries at the governmental and public levels move towards unity and brotherhood, we would not witness the displacement of Muslims as well as oppression and aggression against Muslim territories.
If Muslims continue to spread the real instructions of our religion to the world, then terrorist groups such as Daesh and Takfiris will never seize the opportunity to represent themselves as harbingers of Islam and deviate the youth. Such groups do not believe in Islam. But they are the puppets of the enemies of the Muslim Ummah as well as Zionists.
It should have been clear to you by now that the United States is seeking to create division and difference among the Muslim countries only to secure the illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime. Trump’s decision in moving the US Embassy to the Holy Quds and recognizing it as the capital of the Zionist regime as well as the recent US veto in the Security Council are only examples of the anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian decisions of the American administration. Fortunately, last week’s extraordinary meeting of the OIC heads of state in Istanbul demonstrated the strong determination of Muslim countries in denouncing this US decision and supporting the Palestinian cause, which paints a bright future for the oppressed people of Palestine.
The United States and Zionists are trying to undermine the issue of Palestine as the number one issue of the Muslim world. Creating conflicts and differences among Muslim states aims at deviating the public opinion from the issue of Palestine and its marginalization. We should never allow this trick of enemy to succeed. Therefore, we are all obligated to keep the issue of Palestine in our agenda and defend the Palestinians to enjoy their legitimate rights in forming an independent government in all the territories of Palestine with Al-Quds as its capital.
The unity among Muslims today is the most healing drug and the most urgent prescription for alleviating the pains and sicknesses of Muslims as division and dissention have inflicted severe wounds on the body of the Muslim Ummah. If Muslim countries are united and stop humiliating each other, there will be no need to resort to forces which are enemy to Islam.
The Islamic Republic of Iran would continue its efforts to preserve unity among Muslims. We spare no effort to promote friendship and brotherhood between Muslims. The Muslim Ummah enjoys a lot of political, cultural and economic capacities to promote the level of welfare and prosperity for the people in view of more unity and synergy.
The closing meeting of the Islamic Solidarity Year provides a unique opportunity to identify obstacles on the way of the Ummah unity and present new solutions for solidifying consolidation and cooperation among Islamic states.
