Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Declaration of 2017 “a Year of Islamic Solidarity” in Azerbaijan the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan has been one of the main centers of the Islamic civilization for long centuries. It has played a significant role in the spreading out of the religion of Islam, as well as the establishment of the Islamic Renaissance. All these have contributed to the formation of material and non-materialspiritual heritage of the religion of Islam since its early times. The Shamakhi Juma Mosque of Shamakhi built in 743 and the ancient manuscripts preserved in the museums of our country are clear examples to such fact.
Although only 17 mosques existed in Azerbaijan during the Soviet period, nowadays a number of them have exceeded 2, 000. More than 300 of these mosques are preserved as historical and cultural monuments. Thanks to the care of Azerbaijan state to the religious values of Islam, the precious monuments of Islamic culture such as Bibiheybat, Tazapir, Ajdarbay, Shamakhi Juma Mosques and “Imamzada” complex in the city of Ganja have been fundamentally reconstructed and renovated. Meanwhile, at the same time, the most magnificient magnificent temple of the South Caucasus Heydar Mosque, has been built in the capital city of our country in recent years.
Being selected as the a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, ISESCO, as well as other reputable organizations that unite the Muslim countries, the Azerbaijan Republic of Azerbaijan has established mutually fruitful relations with the Islamic world and acted as the organizer Convener of several a number of significant cultural forums of global importance. Furthermore, Azerbaijan has contributed to the formation of tolerant environment, the establishment of multiculturalism, intercultural and inter-civilizational dialogue, and as well as to the promotion of Islamic values in the world. The influence of Azerbaijan has achieved in the Islamic world has reflected itself in the declaration of Baku, then (2009) and Nakhchivan (2018) as the “Capital of Islamic Culture” in 2009 and in 2018 accordingly. The decision to hold the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 2017 provides provided the a favorable condition for our country to take further practical steps towards strengthening the Islamic solidarity.
Being guided by the Clause 32 of the Article 109 of the Constitution of Azerbaijan the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to ensure the enhancement of Azerbaijan’s unique position in the strengthening of the Islamic solidarity, I resolve upon the following:
1. 2017 shall be declared a “a Year of Islamic Solidarity” in Azerbaijan the Republic of Azerbaijan.
2. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic of Azerbaijan shall develop draw a plan of actions pursuant to the declaration of 2017 a “a Year of Islamic Solidarity” within a one month and submit it to the President of the Azerbaijan Republic of Azerbaijan.
